Akshay Bhat
POST-GRADUATE STUDENT : MRes bioinformatics, University of Glasgow
Welcome Folks, Thank you for visiting my personal Web-page. trial

I am an Indian, born and brought up in Al-Ain, U.A.E. I arrived in Glasgow on September 2010. Presently, I am pursuing my Master of Research in Bioinformatics from this well esteemed university and further would like to become an independent researcher.[University of Glasgow]

The reason why I opted for Bioinformatics is because the field triggered my interest since my under graduation. I am certified with a Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology from Bangalore, India. During the course, I was intrigued with concepts of Molecular Biology and the interaction of it with Computer science. This led me to take up a Computational Biology project for my final year project that involved creating a database for the 'Nuclear Receptor Superfamily' which further got me a publication for my hard work. [for more details]

All the way through the Master's course, I have become well acquainted with Computing languages mainly focused on Java, Perl and Database creation and found myself performing codes which I never had seen before. Other interesting fields that I liked from the course were mainly Statistical analysis using the software 'R', Molecular graphics, Protein modelling and Systems biology which used Mat Lab.

The project that I have selected for my Dissertation is based on creating a database using MySQL for a Next Generation Sequencing data and then producing a graphical user interface that involved dynamic web pages written in 'Ruby' for client-server communication which is due to start on 23rd May 2010. My supervisor for the whole research project is Dr. Pawel Herzyk from the Sir Henry Wellcome Functional Genomics Facility.[Further deatils will be updated]

Future Research:

I would like to research more in the bailiwicks mentioned above mainly focusing my ideas towards:

This web page is created for my Web-Technology assignment handled by Dr. David Leader and details of each juncture are illustrated briefly with its exercises that were performed during the lab sessions.

Apart from academics, my hobbies are collecting stamps and currencies from different countries, and listening to music, where my favourite band is 'Pink Floyd'.

The indoor and outdoor games that I play and have excelled in are Cricket, Table-Tennis, Badminton and Football.
